BIG ( Bjarke Ingels Group) Architects have designed some amazing looking projects, and today’s example is a beautiful doozy:

It’s a nearly 500 foot tall apartment building on the upper west side of Manhattan and it’s one of the most unique high-rise apartment buildings that’s ever been built.  In plan, it’s a simple rectangle with an inner rectangular courtyard…but the beauty of the design comes from the massive, diagonal slice that removes a good chunk of the nominal rectilinear design, while simultaneously opening up the inner courtyard that most likely would never have seem so much daylight had the original floorplate been kept intact.  It’s a modern marvel alright, thanks to some simple geometric ‘shaving’ that really make the design soar.
